Heartworm Disease needs to be treated

Pet Tales: Friday Edition

Let's take a look at Heartworm disease. So easily spread but so easily preventable with monthly preventative medication. Heartworm is passed by the bite of a mosquito. The worms are called “heartworms” because the adults live in the heart, lungs, and associated blood vessels of an infected animal. Heartworm disease is a serious disease that results in severe lung disease, heart failure, other organ damage, and death in pets, mainly dogs, cats, and ferrets. Nasty little buggers!

We are treating Heartworm positive dogs like Rosie with medications and often have multiple infected dogs at a time here at Sammie's Friends Shelter. Those medications are paid for by your donations. With treatment/mediations we are able to get these dogs on their way to recovery so we can adopt out a healthy pet!

Without the support and funding of our generous community we couldn't do what we do.

Please donate if and when you can. Every dollar helps. We appreciate your care and generosity.
