Why should I foster an animal?
Fostering a dog or a cat is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have (other than adopting, of course). By taking an animal in need temporarily into your home you’re:
• freeing up a spot so the shelter can take in another animal.
• giving your foster animal the time it needs to be ready for adoption.
• helping the shelter learn more about the animal so we can find the best possible home.
• socializing the animal to a home environment and possibly getting them used to being around other pets and different types of people.
What does fostering involve?
When you foster, you agree to take a homeless pet into your home and give him or her love, care and attention, either for a predetermined period of time or until the animal is adopted. The shelter provides their food and any needed medications needed.
What additional responsibilities will I have if I become a foster?
All that we ask is that you observe the animals behavior while living in your home. Take notes about their experience around people, kids, other animals etc. and take a few photos of them interacting with your family. Then share your notes and photos with us so we can help find them a home. That’s it!
Sammie's Friends always needs foster homes for some of our extra special animals, such as puppies, kittens, senior dogs, senior cats and pets with special needs.
