Chocolate is an older lab who had heartworm and needed treatment for that.  He also has arthritis.  He was treated for his heartworm and is taking glucosamine for his arthritis and he is doing well.
Junior is a 13-year-old cat who fell two stories and bruised his bladder in the process.  He was treated and is doing fine.

Timothy is  a 7-year-old rabbit who had a swollen joint in his hind leg.  The veterinarian squeezed a lot of nasty stuff out of it.  He was on Baytril and the leg improved, but then Timothy's leg became swollen again and he needed more treatment.  It is hard to treat rabbits because they do not do well with anesthetics.  Timothy is so cute.  We hope for recovery of his joint.
Cool Cat (aka Zarathustra) needed entropian surgery on his lower right eye lid.  Entropian means that the eyelids and eyelashes turn into the eye rather than outward.  If this condition is not repaired, it will damage the cornea and there will be so much scar tissue that the cat cannot see.  Cool Cat (which he is) should be just fine now.
Roxy is a dog who had lived her life on a short little rope with no shelter and often missing food and water.  A kind soul rescued her and found that she had a torn cruciate that needed repair.  Sammie's Friends was able to help, and Roxy is on the mend and will have a good life going forward, as she deserves.
Spotty is an old German Short Hair Pointer who was found as a stray by a very kind man and brought to the shelter.  She was most likely dumped because she was old and she had a large tumor.  That was removed and she has healed nicely.  She had kennel cough and was treated for that.  Spotty was also malnourished.  However, the kind person who found her took her home and now has her as a foster dog.  She is gaining some weight.   Spotty is a dear dear dog.
Lady is a 5-year-old Border Collie mix who was hit by a car and had quite a trauma to her hindquarters.  In the beginning it was unclear whether she would be able to walk again.  She is now able to stand and walk a little.  The prognosis is good.  She required some veterinary care for her injuries.
Rosie was taken to the vet because she was sick and we thought she might have eaten some of the recalled food.  Rosie was put on metronidazole, an antibiotic which will treat bacteria and parasites in the intestinal track.  Rosie is fine.
Poor little Sissy is a 10-month-old pit bull who has a very serious case of demodectic mange.  She is being treated and hopefully recovers as well as Bella has.  You can see Bella on our website also.   Pit bulls are often prone to this dreaded disease.
Monte is an 8-year-old Great Dane/Border Collie mix.  He had a growth on his eye that needed to be removed, and he also needed some teeth cleaning.  The growth was benign and Monte is fine.
Robby had skin problems and Sammie's Friends purchased special food for him, as the regular food at the shelter was problematic.
Goldie is a Golden Retriever mix who has allergies that make her skin itchy and cause loss of hair.  She received treatment for her skin condition and is doing better with some relief from the itchiness.  It was also discovered that she has low thyroid and was put on a thyroid medication.
Chi Chi is a little Chihuahua mix who had a large hernia repair and a spay.  Inside her body cavity was something that appeared to be a mummified fetus.  Chi Chi is doing much better now.
Cody is a 12-year-old Golden Retriever with demodectic mange.  Not many Golden Retrievers have demodex and not many older dogs have it.  Cody is improving and will be fine.
Mr. Wonderful is a beautiful Akita mix who came to the shelter with two other dogs who had been abandoned by their owner, who left for South America, and were left in the care of a 9-year-old child.  A kind lady brought them to the shelter.  All three had heartworms.  They were all adopted by wonderful people and were treated for heartworms and are all fine.
Pepper was a shelter dog that Sammie's Friends helped by paying for heartworm treatment.  Pepper was not doing so well as he also had kennel cough.  Latest reports are that Pepper is doing just great and being loved by his new family.
Entab had a nasty upper respiratory infection and was dehydrated.  He was given fluids and some antibiotics.  Upper respiratory infections are nearly always treatable.  Left untreated, serious secondary problems can occur.  Often when cats are sick, they can't smell and then they don't want to eat.  If this goes on for too long they can develop lipidosis or fatty liver disease, which can be fatal if not treated.
Rio is a large black lab mix that someone dumped at a horse farm.  The kind person who found him took him to the vet and got him updated on shots and thought there was something wrong with his hips.  Sammie's Friends paid to have x-rays taken, and it was determined that there was no neurological damage to Rio.  He is fine now.
